The "Old" National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) was created by an Act of Parliament in 1992.
  • It brought together a fragmented set of research institutions within a single structure.
  • Its mandate was to undertake, promote and coordinate research in crops, livestock, fisheries and forestry, and to ensure the dissemination and application of research results.
  • It had a Management Board comprising seven members that guided the research agenda. Through its secretariat, research institutes, and partners; it managed to satisfactorily implement
  • research programmes and projects entrusted to it.
